Fruit trees have burst into bloom on the site, could be a good year for fruit.
The toilets have had a major makeover during the winter and are nearly complete, flushes have been installed,so no need for jugs of water after use but these toilets are very labour intensive to keep clean and empty, this is carried out by nearby plot holders the toilets are cleaned at least twice a week, Children must be accompanied to the toilets as many do not understand the way the toilet operates we often have to clean up after them and release the door catch to let them out.
Volunteers added further improvements yesterday to link up drainage system in the car park with smaller connecting pipes to drain Marcet Road Allotment’s side, this has to be an ongoing project owing to the amount of silt that is washed down the driveway with each heavy rainfall and the wood chip pile that acts as a dam.
The compostable toilets on site are undergoing improvements at the moment but are still in service, thanks goes out to all the folks who help keep these facilities clean and working the whole year, especially in Winter with no mains water available
We have now setup a new blog purely for the wildlife/biodiversity on the allotments, please follow us on the new blog to get regular updates ….
